Day 5: Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, July 4, 2017

In the morning, we got up at the hotel and had breakfast. We drove to Best Friends and dropped Mommy off at Horse Haven so she could volunteer. She got to play with the goats and clean their pens. She loved Harrison, Sunshine, Ginger, Susie Q, Aries and Cheyenne. Daddy and I volunteered at Cat World. We got to walk a cat named Siren on a leash. Siren was very cute! We also took cats on stroller rides. They loved it!! After the walks, we sat inside the cat rooms and pet the cats. Daddy got over his fear of cats a little bit. After our shift, we got lunch at the café. They had great flag cake and corn on the cob!! After lunch, we drove to Dogtown and got to see the puppies at Puppy Preschool. The first group we got to play with outside! They were so cute! The next group we played with was inside. They had many everyday household items so the puppies could get used to them. Some even sat in our laps. They were so cute! The next group was from the same litter. We got to help the first group we saw learn to have people pet them before they eat. We would reach and then feed. Then pet once and then feed and so on. At the end we were able to pet it while it was eating. The next puppy, Beluga, we did the same. The puppy was doing great until she got a little scared. In the end, she did fine. All the puppies were so cute and we wanted to take them all home. Next, we went to the hotel and relaxed. We ate dinner at Peekaboo the same place as last night because the other restaurants were closed. We drove Leia back to the hotel because she couldn't see the fireworks with us. Luckily, fireworks are not that scary for her. We walked up to the local park had Shave Ice and saw Kanab's firework display. They had amazing fireworks!! Then, we came back and went to sleep.

  1. We adopted a 1/2 frozen cat over 40 years ago. I tried walking her on a leash and she practically clawed her way up the leash , the better to claw me from arm to face:)
Except for the cats, I would have loved playing with the critters.

    1. They are miracle workers. Cats on a leash, it's incredible. They had an amazing way with animal behavior. They were very relaxed and understood out takes a ton of time.

  2. How did you resist bringing home 25 puppies? Are the puppies all rescues? and later adopted? Jim has been VERY brave on this trip!

    1. Almost every animal here can be adopted. If it weren't for Jim and a long ride ahead, the car would be full!!!
