Day 7: Salt Lake City to Brighton to the Spiral Jetty. UT, July 6, 2017

We ate breakfast at the Oasis Café. We drove to the State Capitol. We didn't go inside because it was too hot in town. We drove over to Temple Square to see the Mormon Temple. It had a beautiful garden! Sadly, we couldn't go inside- No dogs allowed. We drove up to the mountains and hiked near Brighton on Donut Trail. They had a beautiful water fall at the end. Sadly, we couldn't swim because we were near a watershed. We drove to Park City and we saw some snow on the side of the road in 80+ degree heat?? We got out and I slid down and Leia started digging. It was Leia's first time seeing snow!! We ate lunch at  Collie's in Park City and walked around town. We drove to the Spiral Jetty, which is an art exhibit in the Great Salt Lake. This was Daddy's third time trying to visit, the last two times it was closed. We walked around the spiral and took lots of pictures and were surprised to see a few others out there, it's a long drive. We also walked though the lake, it was so shallow and very hot. Leia could not swim in the lake because she would drink the salty water and get sick. We drove to Tremonton, which is not that far from the jetty. We had dinner at Mack's Drive In. They had very good milkshakes and dinner for 3 was $12!!

Jumping for joy at visiting another State Capitol.

Mormon Temple

Gorgeous hike near Brighton. Squirrels and Chipmunks were everywhere! We reached the falls at the end of Donut Trail.

How to beat the heat when the temperature is over 100??
Head to the mountains and find some snow!!

The Spiral Jetty by Robert Smithson. Daddy's third time trying to visit was a charm!!
"Robert Smithson's earthwork Spiral Jetty (1970) is located at Rozel Point peninsula on the northeastern shore of Great Salt Lake. Using over six thousand tons of black basalt rocks and earth from the site, Smithson formed a coil 1,500 feet long and 15 feet wide that winds counterclockwise off the shore into the water. "

  3. Perhaps, Elizabeth, you were Jim's good luck charm to finally see the Spiral Jetty. Carey, Pico & I stopped in Park City after sleeping in Lake Point, Utah(our first stop from Oakland). In Park City we shopped at the Albertson's to get snacks for the car ride to our next stop, Ogallala, Nebraska. It was the end of October and there was no snow in Park City and it was not a very romantic look at this skiers' paradise. We didn't even consider going to the Spiral Jetty on this five-day dash across the country to Philadelphia. What did you think of the Spiral Jetty?
